The decision was issued this week after the city’s construction authority warned that these old buildings were in danger of collapsing at any time due to decades of degradation and damage.

To arrange temporary accommodation for those relocated, the Ha Noi People’s Committee has approved a plan to provide 172 apartments, including 100 high-rise apartments in block E, in the Yen Hoa urban area of Cau Giay District, 42 in Phu Thuong Ward, Tay Ho District and 30 in the CT1 bloc of the Giao Luu City urban area in north Tu Liem District.

Specifically, the Ba Dinh District People’s Committee was assigned to set up plans for the relocation and compensation of residents.

The district authority should also be responsible for providing temporary resettlement of the residents who used to live in bloc 1 and 2 of G6A building in Thanh Cong Ward, bloc 1 of Ngoc Khanh Ward and bloc 1 and 3 of the Justice Ministry Dormitory in Cong Vi Ward, Ba Dinh District.

For those households who wish to receive money to rent themselves a temporary apartment, the Ba Dinh People’s Committee said will also provide financial support as a way to help them stabilise their lives after relocation.

Earlier, the Ha Noi Department of Construction submitted to the city’s People’s Committee the results of an assessment on 42 old residential buildings in the city.

The department found all of these building were suffering from serious degradation and damage and warned that they were at the highest risk of collapsing at any time.

The construction authority demanded there should be urgent relocation of all residents in those buildings.
