VietNamNet Bridge – Teachers in Chau Thanh A district in the southern province of Hau Giang are “shocked” because the local education and training department asked them to contribute one day of salary for the year-end firework show.
The department’s call has become a hot topic among local teachers for the last one week.

“We do not know whether we will have Tet bonus or not, but they asked us to give one day of salary for ‘burning.’ It is unacceptable!” said a teacher.

Head of the district department of education and training, Nguyen Phuoc Binh, said the policy of Hau Giang authorities is raising fund from the society for a firework show scheduled at the lunar New Year’s Eve.

Under this policy, Chau Thanh A authorities have called for all government employees and teachers in the district to contribute one day of salary for the firework show.

“In previous years, the district raised fund from local firms for the year-end firework program but this year many companies operate at loss so the district decided to call for contribution from all government employees, not only teachers,” Binh added.

Tran Cong Chanh, Hau Giang province’s chair, said that the district’s policy is “unacceptable.” “I will ask Chau Thanh A district’s officials to immediately stop this policy. Any district that has the similar policy will have their officials punished,” he affirmed.
