VietNamNet Bridge – The number of unsafe abortion cases is on the rise in HCM City. Initial statistics by the local population & family planning bureau shows the abortion cases is equivalent to four fifths of new-born babies.

Lack of sexual knowledge, having sex before marriage, self-indulgence lifestyle, being raped are the most important factors leading to be unintentionally pregnant, experts analyzed.
 
In stead of having babies and taking care of them carefully, many people decided to have abortions. This fact has become more popular in HCM City in recent years.

Ms. To Thi Kim Hoa, head of the HCM City Population & Family Planning Bureau, told correspondents on August 22 that the number of abortion cases in the city is nearly equivalent to four fifths of the number of new-born babies.

This rate is three times higher than the country’s average. Notably, couples are not interested in pre-marriage health check-ups, Hoa said.

She said that HCM City would have to improve supply of information on productive health and sex and healthcare services to the community, particularly the youth.
