VietNamNet Bridge – HCM City Baseball Federation was established on Saturday, the first of its kind in Viet Nam.

The federation, leaded by Le Manh Dung and deputies Nguyen Tuan Khiem and Cao Chi Dung, plans to spearhead the country's representation at the Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia on November 26.

Baseball was first formally played in HCM City in 1996.

The HCM City team trains at Phu Tho Stadium and is coached by a South Korean.


* Golfers set for next stage of Mercedes Trophy


Seven Vietnamese golfers have made it through to the next round of the Asian Final in Queensland, Australia, on August 24-26.

Tran Hong Quan won division A for those with a handicap of 0-12; Banh Duc Phong topped division B (12-20); Phan Ngoc Hieu, division C (21-28); Nguyen Thi Van Anh, division D – and three division runners-up qualified while competing at the Mercedes Trophy-Viet Nam final at Sea Links Golf Club, in Phan Thiet City on Saturday.

The qualifying round drew 96 players from 21 golf clubs nationwide.

Seven qualifed golfers of Viet Nam team will continue in the Asian Final, of which the best golfer secure a berth at the World Final in Germany on September 2.

Mercedes Trophy has been running for 20 years.
