Police check a Thanh Buoi bus in HCM City

The company is also facing a license revocation of one to three months after the department concluded their investigation into the company's operation.

Speaking at a meeting with representatives of Thanh Buoi Company on Monday, the department director, Tran Quang Lam, announced that the company had committed eight violations including failing to ensure traffic safety in their operation, failing to update driver profiles and perform health checks on them. Besides, Thanh Buoi buses picked up and dropped off passengers at illegal locations.

The company's violations had led to a traffic accident with serious consequences," the official said, adding that specific punishment will be officially issued later.

Thanh Buoi Bus Company has announced the suspension of their passenger transport on the HCM City-Dalat/Can Tho routes from October 29.

The move came after local authorities recently launched an investigation into the company's operation after one of their drivers caused a serious traffic accident leaving five dead on September 30.

According to the police investigations, the accident occurred when the bus driver, Hoang Van Tinh, 37, was speeding. He had no driving licence when the accident occurred. His licence had recently been revoked for three months for speeding. Tinh was arrested.

Following the sudden suspension of the company, the HCM City Transport Department has worked with the Mien Tay Bus Station to arrange some other buses to meet travel demand.

Speaking with Dantri/Dtinews, the deputy director of the Mien Tay Bus Station, Tran Van Phuong, said that Thanh Buoi was operating 32 trips with about 650 passengers from HCM City to Can Tho daily.

"We've arranged four other bus firms to serve passengers on this route after Thanh Buoi halted operation," Phuong said.

Established in 2000, Thanh Buoi is a major transport service provider in the southern region which operates routes connecting HCM City, the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, and the Central Highlands city of Dalat.
