The fee would vary from district to district.

The highest fee to use pavements would be VND100,000 (US$4.4) per square metre a month in District 1 and VND80,000 per sq. m a month in District 3, while the lowest would be VND20,000 per sq.m a month in Thu Duc, Tan Binh and other outlying districts.

The rates are based on the city’s land prices.

Public parking on roadsides in districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, Tan Binh and Phu Nhuan would be charged VND20,000-50,000 per vehicle.

In other districts, the fee will be VND15,000-40,000 per vehicle. All of the fees will go to the State’s budget.

The Transport Department and people’s committees in all districts will be responsible for collecting fees for use of pavements and roadsides.

The fees are expected to enhance traffic safety and urban beauty.

Under current regulations, fees for parking or sales on roadsides are charged on 345 streets in the city. Districts 1, 3 and 5 collect car parking fees on roadsides at VND5,000 per vehicle.

However, since the rate is low, many users abuse the service and leave their vehicles all day long and not for a specific time period, as regulated by the city.
