Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro project

The HCM City Management Authority for Urban Railways on Monday held a ceremony to announce the connection of the 2.6 kilometre underground section with Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro project’s remaining part.

The underground section includes three stations.

According to the HCM City Management Authority for Urban Railways around 71% of the project’s work has been completed.

Huynh Hong Thanh, deputy head of the agency said that, the remaining work mostly focused on equipment installation to ensure that around 85% of the project could be finished by the end of this year.

Trains are expected to be brought to the city in June this year. People can visit the finished sections of the route.

The whole line is scheduled for completion in 2021.

The 19.7-kilometre Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien, which is the first among HCM City’s eight planned metro projects, uses Japanese ODA capital and the city’s reciprocal capital.

The project had an initial investment of VND17.38 trillion passed in 2009 by the prime minister. At that time, it did not belong to the list of National Assembly-approved projects. However, after that, its investment capital was raised to VND47.32 trillion, so it had to seek the National Assembly consideration. This was among the main reasons for the slow pace. Dtinews
