VietNamNet Bridge – Inspectors of the HCM City Department of Health have begun to randomly inspect restaurants and industrial food producing enterprises from April 25.

Dr. Pham Kim Binh, vice chief inspector, says that four inspection groups have been formed to examine food hygiene at restaurant and firms that provide food for factory workers and schools.

Inspectors will first visit enterprises that supply meals for factories and schools and processed bottled water and then crowded restaurants, Binh says.

“Besides examining production procedures and administrative formalities, we will collect samples for testing. Those that violate the rules on food hygiene will be strictly punished,” says Ms. Nguyen Thi Huynh Mai, vice chief of HCM City Food Hygiene and Safety Bureau.

The city’s move is implemented after the local media reported several mass food poisoning cases, the discovery of lean meat addictives and warehouses with tons of rotten meat in some locations in the country.
