Liksin Corporation pledged to reduce its electricity consumption by seven million kWh this year and 86 million kWh throughout the 2015-2017 period.
Huynh Kim Tuoc, director of the HCMC Energy Conservation Center, said these are the very first enterprises in the city to make commitments to electricity saving. Phase one of the energy saving plan is applied to the State-owned entities under the HCMC government. Phase two will be expanded to around 200 energy-guzzling enterprises in the city.
Tuoc said electricity cost accounts for 16% of the city’s total gross domestic product (GDP), and transport and industrial manufacturing sectors and households are the biggest electricity consumers. For instance, the Metro Line No. 1 stretching from Ben Thanh in downtown HCMC to Suoi Tien Theme Park in District 9 would make up 5% of total electricity consumption in the city when it is put into service by 2020.
Tuoc said rising demand will pile pressure on the city’s energy sector, and if there is no energy saving solution, the city would fall short of electricity.
Based on the energy saving solutions of enterprises, Tuoc estimated there would be around 300 technologies to be renovated to help save around 481 million kWh and 5.6 million liters of diesel, equivalent to some VND800 billion in the next three years.
