Major Nguyen Van Cuong, vice head of the Rach Chiec Traffic Police Team, HCM City said that traffic police officers stopped a Nghe An-Saigon bus for inspection on the on National Highway 1A, in Linh Trung Ward, Thu Duc district at 9am of November 8.
This is a 50-seat bus, with the number plate of the central province of Nghe An, driven by Ngo Minh Xuyen, 35.
Searching the coach, the police discovered a lot of frozen meat of wild animals in the bus. The driver was asked to take his car to the Thu Duc animal quarantine station for further inspection.
Inspectors then found two frozen baby tigers, weighing around 4kg each, two frozen baby bears, weighing 3.7 kg and 1.4 kg, 8 bear hands totaling 17 kg and over 140 kg of cow tails and cow legs.
The driver said he did not know about the origin of these products. He was hired by an unknown woman to transport these things from Nghe An to Saigon.
According to Ms. Dang Thi Tuyet, head of the Thu Duc animal quarantine station, said the goods will be handed over to the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Bureau for assessment.
