The remaining buses are of small size (12 seats) and are thus not required to be installed with a black box, the department said.
The device will help inspect bus drivers’ acts during their operation in relation to speed, driving practices, and others.
In addition, it will also help record the exactly number of journeys that have been made during a certain period by each bus.
This data is part of the parameters that will be used in calculation of how much subsidy is needed to be given by the State budget to bus firms to help them improve service quality, the department said.
The city authorities have long called on the public to use buses and limit the use of their personal vehicles as one of the measures to ease congestion, reduce traffic accidents, and improve environmental protection.
