VietNamNet Bridge – Nearly 2,600 of the Ho Chi Minh City’s total number of 2,900 buses have been equipped with black box that will record the vehicles’ operations on their journeys, said the city Department of Transport.

The black box installation has been carried out under Decree 91 of October 21, 2009 by the Government on road transport business and business conditions.

The remaining buses are of small size (12 seats) and are thus not required to be installed with a black box, the department said.

The device will help inspect bus drivers’ acts during their operation in relation to speed, driving practices, and others.

In addition, it will also help record the exactly number of journeys that have been made during a certain period by each bus.

This data is part of the parameters that will be used in calculation of how much subsidy is needed to be given by the State budget to bus firms to help them improve service quality, the department said.

The city authorities have long called on the public to use buses and limit the use of their personal vehicles as one of the measures to ease congestion, reduce traffic accidents, and improve environmental protection.
