This will be the seventh in HCM City after the first held in 1992. The event has been more actively supported by young Vietnamese people for nearly three decades.   

The competition will take place at Phu My Hung residential area on January 4-5. The first day will be the time for participants to get familiar with the race and practice running.

To date, nearly 10,000 people have registered to compete in the 2020 HCM City Marathon, including 1,695 foreigners from 62 countries and territories.

The race consists of distances of 42.195 kilometres, 21.09 kilometres, 10 kilometres, and five kilometres for both professional and amateur athletes. The distance for kids aged 6 to 10 is 1.5 kilometres.

Some Vietnamese runners who competed at the recent SEA Games 30 in the Philippines such as Le Tu Chinh, Ha Thi Thu and Pham Thi Hong Le, have been invited to attend the marathon.

A total number of over 25,000 athletes participated in HCM City Marathon in previous years.
