VietNamNet Bridge – Petrol stations in HCM City that were built before March 16, 2007, and fail to meet safety and other standards will have to be moved or renovated until they do so, the People's Committee has decided.

New regulations require the stations to be set at least 5m away from the street, not situated in bridges' safety zones, and be at least 50m away from bridges if they are located on approach roads.

Besides, two petrol stations on the same side of a street must be at least 50 m away from each other. It is also the minimum distance required between a station and an object that blocks road users' view of it.

They are required to protect their surroundings and comply with all fire regulations.

Stations located near intersections should have convenient entrances and exits.

Relevant departments and branches are responsible for instructing petrol stations about repairs, upgrades, and rebuilding.

Those failing to fulfill the new conditions will have their licences withdrawn.

The deadline is May 19 next year.
