VietNamNet Bridge - Police impounded about 550 motorbikes and arrested dozens of youths who were planning an illegal speed ride through the streets of HCM City on Saturday night, October 23.

Binh Thanh District’s mobile police forces on the night of October 23 discovered dozens of groups of motorbike riders who gathered to participate in or watch an illegal speed race. Binh Thanh police together with police forces of nearby districts and HCM City’s traffic police to set an ambush.

At 12:15am, police forces made a raid at three places in Binh Thanh district and arrested dozens of young racers and nearly 550 motorbikes out of around 700 motorbikes attending the race.

Many of the youths escaped and left their motorbikes behind after being approached, Binh Thanh District police said.

Police spokesmen said the catch was their biggest so far in the fight against illegal motorbike racing. Violators would receive a heavy fine.
