They arrested Nguyen Hong Phuc, 33, of Vinh Long, the gang leader; Huynh Van Trung, 40, of Vinh Long; Le Ngoc Mai, 16, of Dong Thap; Phung Ngoc Canh, 19, of Gia Lai; Le Dien Khac Huy, 41, and Le Minh Chau, 29, of Tien Giang; Khuc Chi Tai, 29, of Hung Yen, Mai Quang Minh, 18, of HCM City; and Bui Trong Tri, 25, of Hau Giang.
They seized AR15 semi-automatic rifles, ZP5 riflescopes, grenades, home-made mines, 176 cartridges, two detonators, a silencer, explosives and equipment to make guns.
The city police’s Division PC45 came across the ring in October.
They arrested Phuc when he got out of a car in front of a house on Pham Hung Street in the Mekong city of Vinh Long on October 12.
He had with him weapons including an M67 grenade, a riflescope, three revolvers, a silencer, and 70 cartridges.
He confessed to the police he was the leader of the gang and that it made the weapons in a field in Phu Son Commune in Binh Phuoc’s Bu Dang District.
They then arrested the other members and seized the weapons.
Phuc said Mai sold the weapons to buyers in several places including HCM City, Tien Giang, Dong Thap, and Gia Lai.
The police are continuing their investigation.
