Ho Chi Minh City Police have officially launched a 45-day citywide campaign aimed at intensifying crime prevention efforts and supporting the city’s goal of becoming a “drug-free, civilized metropolis” by 2030.

The campaign, running from May 15 to June 30, 2026, focuses on a comprehensive review and cleanup operation targeting drug-related activities and other forms of crime across the city.

Authorities described 2026 as a pivotal year for laying the foundation for long-term anti-crime strategies.

Under the campaign, police forces at all levels will conduct extensive inspections and reviews of local areas, individuals and criminal networks to assess the real situation surrounding drug supply, demand, addiction and illegal drug use.

The operation also aims to dismantle criminal groups, eliminate hotspots and identify trafficking routes and methods used by drug-related offenders.

Beyond narcotics crimes, the campaign will simultaneously target other offenses including violent crime, economic crime, corruption, smuggling, trade fraud and cybercrime.

Ho Chi Minh City Police leadership said the strategy would focus on attacking criminal networks at their roots by dismantling entire operations, arresting ringleaders and cutting off intermediary links.

Authorities stressed that no new crime “hotspots” would be allowed to emerge and disrupt public security.

The city’s police chief has instructed all units to follow the principle of “targeting the right people, the right crimes and eliminating problems at the source.”

The campaign will also apply a “five clear principles” approach, requiring clear assignment of personnel, tasks, responsibilities, authority, deadlines and results.

Officials said the effectiveness of the operation in each area would be directly tied to the accountability of local police leaders and unit commanders.

As part of the crackdown, authorities will increase the use of technology and maximize data integration from Project 06, Vietnam’s national digital population database initiative, to strengthen criminal and area management.

Police have also intensified public outreach efforts, including promoting the SOS Security and Order application and launching landlord safety clubs encouraging rental property owners to support anti-drug initiatives.

Traffic police units are additionally carrying out alcohol and drug testing for drivers during the campaign.

The operation is being linked to a broader emulation movement within the police force built around the slogan: “Most disciplined - Most loyal - Closest to the people.”

City authorities say the campaign reflects a broader effort to transform Ho Chi Minh City into a safer, more modern and more livable urban center.
