VietNamNet Bridge – HCM City Police on September 24 night impounded over 200 motorbikes after rounding up around 1,000 riders on some roads in Binh Thanh district.


Racers grouped up quietly at around 9pm, September 24, on the roads of D2, Phan Dang Luu, Xo Viet Nghe Tinh, etc. in Binh Thanh district to prepare for the race.

The race began at 4am, with hundreds of motorbikes blaring horns, did wheelies and rode zigzagged on Chu Van An, Bach Dang, Hoang Hoa Tham, Dien Bien Phu roads.

They gathered again on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Road to perform stunts and to race furiously on the street amid deafening applause from audience on the sidewalks.

Hundreds of traffic police suddenly appeared and blocked the road. Police seized more than 100 motorbikes.


Traffic officers and several criminal policemen in plain clothes set up some checking-points to prevent the illegal races and then raided dozens of cases.

Police in District 4 also seized around 100 motorcycles after rounding up some illegal races.

Lieutenant colonel Tran Viet Cuong, head of the traffic police team of District 4, said that the number of motorbikes seized this time is not high.

He said that it is necessary to have combination among local police and traffic police forces to prevent illegal races.
