Information about traffic violations on the HCM City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway, now monitored by a camera surveillance system, are sent to local police for off-site citations.

The data collected from surveillance cameras, installed on the 54km expressway in March, will be sent to local police who will issue off-site citations, according to Nguyen Thi Hoai Phuong, deputy director of VECE.

VECE will also publish the information on media platforms to raise public awareness about traffic violations.

Phuong said the surveillance would ensure adherence to traffic rules, and improve safety records and service quality.

On March 10, the VND800 billion (US$35.1 million) intelligent transport system (ITS) on the expressway was put into operation.

It includes 16 camera view systems (CCTV) and 52 vehicle detection systems that help identify traffic density and address accidents.

The images and videos captured by the ITS are transferred to the management centre located in HCM City’s District 9 and are monitored around the clock.

Opened in February 2015, the 55-km expressway significantly reduced the travel time to neighbouring localities.

The road now only takes travellers about 20 minutes to go from HCM City to Dong Nai Province’s Long Thanh instead of the previous one hour.

It takes just one hour instead of the previous three to travel to Dau Giay Town in Dong Nai’s Thong Nhat District.

Last year, an average of 28,000 to 30,000 vehicles travelled on the expressway daily.
