Dengue fever patients in HCM City

Over the past week, the city saw one more dengue fever fatality, raising the city’s number of deaths to nine.

The HCM City Pasteur Institute reported that the southern region accounted for 80 percent of the nation’s dengue fever cases in the first five months of this year. The rate was previously around half the total cases last week.

Many southern localities are facing difficulties in the fight against dengue fever due to their limited budget. This has resulted in a lack of chemicals, equipment and staff.

The disease would continue surging in the southern region if drastic measures were not taken.

The Ministry of Health has urged the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment and the Drug Administration of Vietnam to provide medicines and medical equipment for dengue fever treatment in localities.

Local health services have been asked to provide training on disease treatment for local medical facilities.
