The Department of Transport has petitioned the People's Committee to submit the proposals to the People's Council for approval at the 2024 mid-year session.

Thu Thiem 4 bridge will connect the Thu Thiem New Urban Area in Thu Duc city with District 7, and cost around VND6 trillion ($253 million).

To be constructed under the build-operate-transfer model, it will span over 2km and have six lanes and sidewalks on either side.

The Can Gio Bridge connecting the Can Gio and Nha Be districts will replace the Binh Khanh Ferry.

The 7.3km bridge will have six lanes, cost more than VND11 trillion ($464 million) and be built under the public-private partnership model.

The city People’s Committee said the Binh Khanh Ferry has become overloaded due to the increase in number of passengers, who have to spend at least 30 minutes to cross the Nha Be River.

The bridge is also expected to boost tourism and economic development in Can Gio.

The pre-feasibility study has been completed for the two bridges, and their construction is expected to begin in April 2025.

The transport department will also submit the investment proposal for upgrading a section of Vinh Loc Street near the Vinh Loc Industrial Park in Binh Chanh District, widening Do Xuan Hop Street in Thu Duc city and building the Thanh Da embankment in Binh Thanh District. — VNS
