VietNamNet Bridge - On June 4, the Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City announced that a patient of A/H1N1 influenza died at the hospital on June 3.
This is a man named Ly Kim Sen, 61 years old, from the southern province of Dong Thap. He died in the afternoon of June 3 due to heart failure and severe respiratory problems.
Before going to the hospital, the patient had a bad cough and fever. He bought medicines to treat himself at home but the health status got worse, with shortness of breath symptoms. He was hospitalized to a local clinic and then transferred to the Cho Ray Hospital because of serious respiratory failure.
At the Cho Ray Hospital, tests showed that the man’s lungs were infected seriously and the lung parenchyma almost lost. With these symptoms, the doctors thought it’s viral pneumonia.
Basic tests were conducted to screen for the three strains of influenza - A/H1N1, A/H5N1, A/H7N9 and he was determined to be A/H1N1 positive. Despite doctors’ effort, the patient did not survive. He died at 4.30pm on June 3.
The Cho Ray Hospital is also treating another critical case of H1N1 influenza. This is a woman, born in 1989, a native of Kon Tum Province who temporarily lives in District 9, Ho Chi Minh City.
Currently, the patient suffers from lung injury, severe respiratory distress and may die.
The patient was transferred to Cho Ray Hospital on June 2, just after giving birth at the Tu Du Obstetrics Hospital, HCM City.
Due to the impact of the A/H1N1 flu, the woman had a premature delivery in the 34th week.
