At a meeting with voters in districts 4, 7, Nha Be and Can Gio on October 11, Mai said the city had many narrow rented homes, which had caused an inconvenience to workers, especially amid the pandemic, the local media reported.
People from other provinces come to the city for work, contributing to the city’s development, so the city should be responsible for improving their living conditions.
He added that the city’s economic recovery measures include a plan to build apartments for workers and low-income people. This weekend, the municipal government will listen to a report on the plan.
The city will develop apartments at the lowest possible prices so that workers can access them, and old apartments, makeshift houses along canals and boarding houses will be replaced, Mai said, adding that District 7 had proposed some locations for these apartment building projects.
As for social welfare, the city has striven to take care of people affected by the pandemic. However, the city could not avoid shortcomings due to its large population.
Since relief aid packages were launched, the city has asked authorities at all levels to do the job carefully and established teams to check the relief aid distribution.
Regarding the vaccination for children, the municipal chairman said the city had urged the Ministry of Health to conduct the vaccination, even using the city’s Covid-19 vaccine fund to buy vaccines for children, mainly students. The Pfizer vaccine can be administered to children aged five and older and Cuba’s vaccine can also be used to vaccinate young children.
The trajectory of the pandemic in the city remains unpredictable, so the competent agencies and residents must stay watchful. The city has improved its healthcare system to adapt to the new normal, Mai noted.
