VietNamNet Bridge – HCM City Police Agency reported that in the first half of 2012, many forms of crime in the city reduced remarkably over the same period of 2011, but sex-tour prostitution was on the rise.



The most noticeable case is the discovery of a high-end sex ring of models, actresses, singers and contestants of beauty contests, led by Miss South Mekong Vo Thi My Xuan.

The discovery of similar sex rings is just the tip of the underworld of high-end prostitution. HCM City Police Agency said that overseas prostitution in the form of sex tours was on the rise.

Accordingly, with tourist visa, many girls go abroad to work as prostitutes or join overseas sex tours with rich men.

Prostitution advertising on the Internet is getting complicated and causes difficulty for police to control.

In the January-June period, HCM City police uncovered 43 prostitution rings, arrested 204 related people, sent 46 prostitutes to education centers and imposed fines on nearly 2,900 sensitive service providing centers.

HCM City police also detected 857 gambling cases, arrested 4,161 people, seized over $130,000. Online gambling is also considered as complicated.

HCM City police confirmed to drastically attack gambling activities, particularly football betting, during EURO 2012 in June.

There were 1,712 criminal cases uncovered by HCM City police in this period, with 352 gangs eliminated and 860 criminals arrested.

HCM City police also discovered 808 drug-related cases, collected nearly 4.7kg of heroin, nearly 13.6kg and 1,635 pills of amphetamines, over 1kg of opium and arrested nearly 1,600 people.
