The 33-kilometer Tam Luong-Ben Cat-Nuoc Len Canal will be dredged. It will also have concrete embankments, roads measuring 7-12 meters wide on both sides, 19 sewer systems, three bridges, and rainwater drainage and lighting systems.

Work on the project is expected to be completed in 2025.

It will prevent flooding, treat wastewater, improve the urban landscape and make the living conditions better for about two million people in seven districts within the canal basin, said Nguyen Hoang Anh Dung, deputy director of HCMC Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board.

Moreover, the two roads along the canal will help ease congestion on National Highway 1 and facilitate traffic connectivity between HCMC and the other southern provinces such as Long An, Binh Duong and Dong Nai.

Tham Luong-Ben Cat-Nuoc Len, the longest canal in HCMC, passes through districts Binh Thanh, 12, Go Vap, Tan Binh, Tan Phu, Binh Tan and Binh Chanh. As the canal renovation project was delayed due to funding shortages, the canal has been seriously polluted.
