On October 23,  leaflets with the title “Prevention is better than a cure” were handed out to foreign tourists by police in Pham Ngu Lao Ward (area for foreign backpackers), District 1, Ho Chi Minh City to provide them with tips to ensure their safety in the city.

The leaflets, titled “A few travel reminders for a hassle – free trip,” were presented in both English and Vietnamese and illustrated with images, providing useful advice on different activities for foreign visitors, including how to choose a taxi, how to bargain when buying things, and how to avoid having belongings snatched or stolen.

Telephones hotlines to contact police in emergency cases were also provided in the leaflets.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Phuoc, chief police officer of Pham Ngu Lao Ward, said the leaflets were delivered to remind foreign tourists to be careful to protect their assets at public sites.

The leaflets were also given to restaurants and hotels in the ward so they could deliver them to their guests, Phuoc said.

Pham Ngu Lao ward police received support from many visitors, given that the warning leaflets were written to protect tourists.
