By 2020, the city expects to complete nine projects that would include 20,000 social housing accommodations and 35,000 apartments for workers in industrial zone areas.

The city will also continue to review and arrange land areas, balance the budget to build social housing, support 10- year loans to attract more enterprises and provide more land located near industrial zones.

In addition, the city will have priority policies to encourage enterprises to participate in social housing accommodations and low-cost apartments.

However, the city is facing a lack of land and long-term capital to support investors.

In addition, compensation and clearance of a number of projects have been delayed.

According to the HCM City’s People’s Committee, the city has three export processing zones and 14 industrial zones with over 1,500 enterprises and 376,000 workers, who require 263,620 accommodations.

By 2020, the city will have more than 400,000 workers and will need 280,000 accommodations.

Last year, the city put into use 40,000 accommodations for workers, only 15 per cent of the demand.
