VietNamNet Bridge – With many advantages, multi-story parking lots are expected to help solve HCM City’s serious shortage of parking space.

Vietnam’s largest city has nearly 500,000 cars and more than 5 million motorbikes. In addition, the city welcomes over one millions of vehicles from other provinces. As a result, the need for parking lots is very high.

The city authorities began thinking of building underground carp-parks in 2003. Four underground car-park projects have been introduced, including Le Van Tam, Trong Dong, Hoa Lu and Tao Dan.

The Le Van Tam car park was kicked off in 2010, at the coast of over $100 million, but it was idle for nearly two years because of administrative formalities. This project will be resumed this August and is scheduled to complete in 2015.

The Trong Dong car park will be launched this year if the investor fulfills administrative formalities early.

HCM City also plans to build multi-story car parks in its center (District 1, 3, 5) to deal with the scarcity of parking space and to eliminate parking lots on the road.

These car parks are believed to be a solution for the city because multi-story car-parks do not require vast areas and they use automatic technology, which are suitable for high-rise buildings. Moreover, construction of this type of car park is easy and quick.

On March 23, the Saigon Transport Mechanics Corporation (Samco) kicked off a 10-story car park project in District 1, which can contain 500 cars.

According to the HCM City Department of Transport, the city has 2,839 parking lots, including 2,086 having business licenses, 1,437 that occupy pavements and 303 collecting higher fees than permitted level.
