VietNamNet Bridge – HCM City plans to invest Eur131 million to install cameras at over 1,400 crossroads, which are connected to a traffic control center.

HCM City Department of Transport and Sagemcom, a French company, has finalized the detailed plan to build Vietnam’s most modern traffic control center in Vietnam.

Accordingly, all crossroads in HCM City will be installed with cameras and other electronic equipment to monitor traffic flows. All images will be sent to a traffic control center for analysis. The center will directly monitor traffic lights, instead of traffic police officers on the spot.

Experts said that this project is a need for controlling HCM City’s traffic congestion during rush hour.

Le Toan, HCM City Department of Transport’s deputy director, said that this project will be implemented in three phases, funded by ODA from the French government.

The plan will be sent to the Ministry of Planning and Investment to register in the list of projects acquiring French ODA.

The southern mega city currently has over 1,400 crossroads, including 600 with traffic lights. The city has installed cameras at some crossroads but these cameras are controlled independently.
