HCM City to build VND1.4 trillion museum in District 9

The HCMC government has approved a proposal to develop a museum in District 9, instead of the Thu Thiem New Urban Area in District 2, at a total cost of VND1.43 trillion.

The museum will be built at an eight-hectare site at the National Cultural and Historical Park in District 9, the municipal government office announced on October 28.

The city also granted permission to set up a steering board, which will be in charge of planning, feasibility studies, appraisals, approvals and executing the project.

Earlier, the museum was set to be built in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area in 2007. Three years later, the municipal People’s Council issued a resolution to develop the project on a 30-hectare section of land.

Recently, on September 20, the municipal Department of Culture and Sports proposed the municipal government build the museum at the park. The land lot allocated for the project in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area covers a mere 1.8 hectares, which is too small for a large-scale museum, it explained.

The museum project is scheduled for construction during the 2020-2025 period.

As for the current HCMC Museum on Ly Tu Trong Street in HCMC’s District 1, the department was asked to team up with the museum’s management to work on a repair and renovation plan, on par with the country’s master plan for a museum system by 2020. The department must also report to the city’s authorities before November 15. SGT
