HCM City authorities will work with Vietnam Education Publishing House to draft textbooks that suit the city's socio-economic development and pupil abilities.
According to the city Department of Education and Training, they have the personnel, curriculum and technology ready. They are still waiting for the Ministry of Education and Training to announce the detailed curriculum framework so that they can have the basis to publish new textbooks.
Specialists and experienced teachers will collaborate on writing the textbooks. Both the department and publishing house have held many training sessions with the authors on how to make textbooks that can most help pupils improve their results.
The project was approved by the Ministry of Education and Training in 2015 as localities are allowed to have different textbooks with the same content.
Nguyen Van Hieu, deputy director of HCM City Department of Education and Training, said that the new textbooks would provide more practical knowledge and would be designed to be more entertaining. More specific contents about HCM City’s culture and economy will be included.
Teachers will have more freedom to arrange the lessons and what to teach. Moreover, pupils will be able to learn history via extracurricular activities.
HCM City authorities hope to be able to officially use the new textbooks in the 2018-2019 school year.
