* National Youth Wushu Championship begins
The 2012 National Youth Wushu Championship is taking place at the Phu Tho gymnasium in Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City from August 15 to 18.
The four-day event will see competition from about 400 male and female athletes representing nearly 40 teams from across the country including Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Phu Tho, Thai Binh, An Giang, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and hosts HCM City.
At last year’s tournament, Hanoi finished in first place with a total of 23 gold, nine silver and nine bronze medals, followed by Thai Nguyen with ten golds, nine silvers and 12 bronzes, and HCM City with nine golds, eight silvers and five bronzes.
The annual event offers a good opportunity for local martial artists to sharpen their skills and gain more experience. It also aims to select and nurture promising young talents for the national team in preparation for future domestic and international wushu competitions.
