VietNamNet Bridge - In order to increase revenues, reduce budget subsidies, from January 1, 2013, the bus fare in Ho Chi Minh City will increase by VND1,000 dong per turn.





The HCM City Center for Management and Operating Public Transport said for the subsidized routes of less than 18km long, the fare will increase from VND4,000 to VND5,000/trip. The routes of over 18km long will have fare increasing from VND5,000 to VND6,000/trip.

For the tickets that are sold in set (30 tickets/set,) the price will increase from VND90,000/set to VND112,500/set (equivalent to about VND5000/ticket).

For students, the fare is only VND2,000/ticket.

According to the HCM City Department of Transportation, the increase of bus fare aims to raising revenue for the operation of buses and reducing subsidies from the city budget. It is estimated that thanks to the new bus fare, the city will collect VND240 billion per year.

Subsidies for bus services in Ho Chi Minh City are increasing every year. In 2011 this amount was VND1,269 billion and in 2012 it is expected to increase to VND1,500 billion.

In early 2011, Ho Chi Minh City’s bus fare increased by VND1,000/trip. In early October 2012, Hanoi also raised the bus fare from VND3,000 to VND5,000/turn for the routes of less than 25 km and from VND5,000 to VND7,000/trip for the routes of over 30 km.

To serve the travel demand during the New Year holiday, HCM City plans to increase by nearly 1,300 bus trips (from 29/12/2012 to 1/1/2013,) with up to 360 trips for the An Suong bus station - Suoi Tien Park - National University.
