Water in the lake will be released into the Sai Gon River from 7am on November 3 to 7am on November 11, with a discharge flow of 150 – 200 m3/s, depending on the amount of rain over the next few weeks.

At 1pm on October 31, the water level in the lake was 24.4 metres high and was expected to increase by 5-10 centimetres a day.

Since floods have reached the third alert level, water from Dau Tieng Lake must be discharged to prevent flooding, Tran Quang Hung, deputy director of Dau Tieng – Phuoc Hoa Irrigation Exploitation Company, said.

The company has told its staff to regularly inspect the level of water in Dau Tieng Lake and carefully monitor construction areas around the lake to ensure safety.

It has also asked authorities in HCM City and in Tay Ninh, Binh Duong and Long An provinces to stay alert during the water-discharge process and prepare for unexpected circumstances.

In case of heavy rains, water will be discharged into Vam Co Dong River in Tay Ninh Province as well as the Sai Gon River.
