HCM City: Sewer-rats carrying the virus that causes kidney failure
Mice 'rife' in the heart of Saigon

Dr. Tran Phu Manh Super, Director of the HCM City Preventive Health Center, said the rat-killing campaign aims to minimize the risk of rats transmitting diseases to humans.

Depending on the capabilities of each locality, preventive health centers of districts must kill rats in the areas where rats often appear, such as food processing plants, warehouses, farms, markets, etc.

"Bus and train stations, ports, hospitals, schools, parks, restaurants, hotels, shops, and administrative bodies are also the places for placing rat baits," Sieu said.

He said the campaign will be implemented in 10 days

A month ago, in Ho Chi Minh City, a man in District 3 was bitten by rats and was hospitalized in a state of high fever and acute renal failure progression. Tests showed he was infected with the Hanta virus from mice.

After this case, the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City captured some rats for tests and detected some brown rats of carrying the Hanta virus.

According to specialists, mice carrying the Hanta virus is not strange and Hanta infection is not uncommon. However, in some cases, the virus can cause acute renal failure for patients.
