The project aims to upgrade Nguyen Huu Canh Street, which is frequently flooded by heavy rains and rising tides, seriously affecting traffic and people’s lives.

The department’s Urban Traffic Management Zone No.1 will be tasked with the construction of upgrading the street, which is a major route connecting the centre to the city’s eastern gateway.

Many sections of the street are often under about 0.5 metres of water due to heavy rains and high tides.

Nguyen Huu Canh Street, which was built in 2003, is 3.2 kilometres long and 30 metres wide with six lanes.

Since 2004, the street had more than one metre depression, according to the department’s Urban Traffic Management Zone No.1.

In the beginning of 2017, a company tested the use of anti-flood centrifugal pumps on Nguyen Huu Canh Street, but the department said using the equipment would not be really effective in the long run.
