VietNamNet Bridge – As the two major rivers in Vietnam’s biggest city – Saigon and Dong Nai – are seriously polluted, HCM City authorities have considered the use of water from two lakes.

According to the city’s clean water supply plan to 2025, water from the Tri An and Dau Tieng reservoirs will be treated to provide to local people, replacing the current sources from the Dong Nai and Saigon rivers, which are getting polluted more seriously.

The city also proposes the government to implement a general management strategy of water resources from the Dong Nai and Saigon River.

Related to underground water, HCM City will restrict exploitation of this resource to curb pollution of water layers. By 2025, the permitted level will be 100,000 cubic meters per day.

The Saigon Water Supply Corporation (Sawaco) has worked out measures to cut down the water loss ratio from 25 percent to 32 percent by 2015, and from 22 to 30 percent by 2025.

The plan will be submitted to the Prime Minister for approval.

The Saigon–Dong Nai River system supplies huge amounts of crude water source for the operation of key water plants in the city such as Tan Hiep and Thu Duc water plants.

The river water is facing serious pollution by huge volumes of untreated industrial and household wastewater flowing into it.
