VietNamNet Bridge – Hosts HCM City topped the National ParaGames for people with disabilities, which concluded yesterday, July 4, at the Tan Binh District's Culture and Sport Centre.

After four days of competition, HCM City athletes won 283 gold, 223 silver and 158 bronze medals. They dominated in table tennis, weightlifting, swimming and track and field.

Runner Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao and swimmer Vo Thanh Tung, both of HCM City, were voted best athletes of the Games.

Thao pocketed five gold medals and set up three ParaGames records while Tung won four golds and broke two records.

The success of the host team was expected as they had 321 athletes at the Games, the biggest delegation, many of whom were members of national teams.

Second were Ha Noi who snatched 128 gold, 74 silver and 43 bronze medals; Quang Tri were third, taking home 33 golds, 20 silvers and eight bronzes.

The annual tournament lured 29 teams from cities and provinces, the biggest turnout in history.

Successful athletes from the tournament will be called into the national teams to take part in the Southeast Asian ParaGames in Indonesia later this year and the London's Paralympics in 2012.
