VietNamNet Bridge – Six men and women each will contest the month-long final of HCM City Television's annual Ngoi Sao Tieng Hat Truyen Hinh (Singing Star on TV) singing contest which begins today, Oct 26.

They will be given genres and topics of music – including pop, contemporary folk, and patriotic music, and songs in praise of the nation, Ha Noi, HCM City, the country's islands, and President Ho Chi Minh – to perform during a total of eight shows.

The judges will select the three best who will go on to the grand finale to be held at the Phan Dinh Phung Gymnasium on November 25.

There they will each sing three songs – a solo, a duet with a pop star, and a duet with one of the other candidates.

The audiences will choose the winner this time.

The top prize will be VND40 million, while the first and second runners-up will get VND30 million and 22 million, respectively.

All the shows will be broadcast live on HTV9.

This year the contest saw thousands of people aged 16 to 25 enter the preliminary rounds held in Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Buon Ma Thuot, Nha Trang, Can Tho, and HCM City earlier this month.

Nguyen Quy Hoa, HTV's general director, said the 21-year-old contest had unearthed many musical talents.

This year's contest too would feature several contestants with beautiful voices and top skills, he added.
