The Oriental medicine streets – Hai Thuong Lan Ong, Trieu Quang Phuc, and Luong Nhu Hoc in District 5 – are a well-known place to purchase medicinal herbs and for people from Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces to seek traditional medical treatment.

To promote the trade and attract tourists, city authorities have re-organized trading activities and the management of product origin, quality, and prices. 18 medicinal establishments here have refurbished their shops to create a friendlier atmosphere for visitors.

Nguyen Thuy Tuyen, owner of a medicinal shop, said “My business this year has been better than in previous years. Prices are listed publicly to assure clients. I hope medicinal herbs will become more popular.”

The Oriental medicine street project has completed its 1st phase on Luong Nhu Hoc street. The 2nd phase in Trieu Quang Phuc and Hai Thuong Lan Ong streets will soon begin. The 3rd Oriental Medicine Week will be held February 23-26.

Pham Quoc Huy, Chairman of district 5 People’s Committee, said “To better promote and manage the Oriental medicine streets, we’ll continue to guarantee security, urban scenery, and environmental sanitation to offer the best conditions for customers. We’ll ensure product quality and promote business trademarks.”

District 5 plans to re-organize  other specialized streets such as gold and silver, and fashion streets to be more professional and better organized. The administration will work with travel agencies like Saigontourist and Ben Thanh Tourist to create one-day tours to explore local specialties and historical sites.
