Tat Thanh Cang is disciplined for serious wrongdoings

Accordingly, Cang was removed from the CPVCC and relieved of his post as Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for having committed to serious violations.

Earlier this month, the CPVCC Inspection Commission issued a statement saying it had decided to propose the Politburo and the Secretariat discipline the 47-year-old Cang over his violations and shortcomings as concluded in November by the Commission.

The commission concluded that Cang flouted the principle of democratic centralism, as well as the municipal Party Committee’s authority and working regulations on asset management and use in enterprises owned by the municipal Party Committee.

Cang is found to have contravened stipulations on deciding the business cooperation policy and transferring of project ownership as well as land use rights among the companies. He is also accused of allowing the Party Committee’s capital representative to vote on the issuance of stocks to strategic share-holders at enterprises.

The official is charged with lacking responsibility, as well as being lax in management and in his inspection of the fields under his authority, which caused critical losses to the municipal Party Committee’s budget.

In addition, when Cang was holding the post of Director of the municipal Department of Transport, he broke the law to approve the construction of four main roads in the Thu Thiem new urban area.

The Inspection Commission said that Cang’s wrongdoings are serious, triggering social uproars while damaging the municipal Party Committee’s prestige.

Since 2016, more than 60 cadres under the management of the Party Central Committee, including four CPVCC members have been disciplined, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said at the closing ceremony of the CPVCC's 9th Plenum.

He reafffirmed the Party's determination to continue anti-corruption campaign without any restricted areas or exceptions.

It is heart-rending. However, for the rule of law and for the aspirations of our people, we must continue this campaign in the time to come, according to Party chief Trong.
