VietNamNet Bridge – Multiple infrastructure projects in HCM City continue to lag behind schedule for various reasons, including slow land clearance.

A large project outside HCM City’s National University, the north gate of HCM City, has been under construction since April 24, 2017 under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract, but only two bridges crossing Ha Noi Highway have been completed.

Another part of the project, which requires construction of an underground tunnel, has yet to be carried out due to a lack of space to build a temporary alternative road for local residents.

Nguyen Van Tam, deputy director of the city’s Department of Transport, said further study on improving connectivity between the project and existing infrastructure in Binh Duong Province must be conducted before the project can resume.

In addition, construction of a double tunnel at An Suong Intersection between District 12 and Hoc Mon District, though kicked off on January 17 last year, has yet to be completed.

Pham Ngoc Dung, deputy head of the department’s Urban Transport Management Unit No 3, said that while the tunnel N1 needs final cleanups before official operation next month, tunnel N2 requires more time to be done due to difficulties in land clearance in Hoc Mon District.

In another matter, investor Nguyen Tam Tien, general director of Trung Nam Group, said that 70 per cent of the first phase of the flood control project in HCM City had been completed as of February.

Cay Kho, Tan Thuan, Phu Dinh and Ben Nghe, among other sewers, are being installed, and other project components are expected to be completed by June 2019, he added.

The group will be able to follow the schedule as long as city authorities hand over the project land on time, he said.
