The HCMC Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has suggested raising museum admission fees for locals and removing the fee discrimination against foreign visitors.

All visitors to the HCMC War Remnants Museum should pay an entrance fee of VND40,000 (US$1.75) per person and those visiting the HCMC Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the HCMC Museum of Vietnamese History will be charged VND30,000 each.

According to the proposal, children under six, poor people, senior citizens and people with disabilities should be admitted free to the museums. Meanwhile, children aged between six and 16, and students should be offered a 50% discount.

If approved by the city government, the museum admission fee changes will take effect from January 1, 2018.

Currently, admission fees at all the museums in the city range from VND2,000 to VND5,000 for domestic visitors and from VND10,000 to VND15,000 for international tourists.

Admission is free for kids, and elderly and disabled people.

The Southern Women’s Museum and Ton Duc Thang Museum charge no admission fee.

Earlier, HCMC Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong had a working meeting with leaders of the seven museums in the city and asked the department to map out a scheme for hiking museum admission tickets to improve the quality of the museums.
