Residents of Ha Noi and the northern provinces are expected to see heavy rains during National Day on September 2 with downpours of 300-400mm, warned the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The centre said yesterday that torrential rains would blanket the north region between August 31 and September 3.
Meanwhile, a representative of the Ministry of Information and Communication's Press Department yesterday said it had yet to receive orders from the Central Committee for Celebration to alter activities celebrating the 70th anniversary of National Day on September 2 due to the expected heavy rains.
As planned, about 30,000 people will join a massive parade in Ha Noi's Ba Dinh Square on September 2 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day.
In another announcement, the forecasting centre predicted rain for the opening ceremony of school year 2015-16 on September 5, with downpours in the northern region.
Hanoi authorities make ambitious flood pledge for National Day
Local authorities in Hanoi say they will try to prevent possible flooding in the city during the National Day Holiday as it is forecast that there will be heavy rain.
The National Hydrometerology Forecasting Centre predicts that there will be heavy rain in northern Vietnam from August 28 through to September 3 with an estimated rainfall of 40 centimetres.
Vo Tien Hung, director of Hanoi Water Drainage Company said that they will try their best to ensure safety, and attempt to deal with any water drainage issues or problems in order to minimise flooding.
The company has requested Ye Son water pumping station and other stations to be on standby to work 24 hours a day and co-ordinate with relevant agencies to regulate dams to ensure water drainage for the city.
The company has also assigned workers to clean drains to ensure streets that have been earmarked for events during the holiday period, such as Quan Thanh, Phan Dinh Phung, Thuy Khue, Hung Vuong, Hoang Hoa Tham, Ba Huyen Thanh Quan, Hoang Dieu, Nguyen Tri Phuong, Bac Son, Thanh Nien, Lieu Giai, Tran Quang Khai, Tran Nhat Duat are able to be rapidly drained.
“We’ll try to quickly respond to flooding,” said Hung.
The company recently decided to halt work to repair water drainage systems from August 15 to September 6 in order to ensure clean streets for the holiday.
