Snow fell strongly from 5am to 8am this morning in the communes of Pho Bang, Pho La, Sung La, Sa Phin, Lung Cu, Sang Tung, Lung Tao, Ta Phin and others of Dong Van district.
The temperature in these areas went down to 1 to 2 degrees Celsius and minus 1 degree Celsius in some places, such as Xin Cai, Thuong Phung, the center of Lung Pu commune and San To peak in Meo Vac town.
This is the second time snow fell in this area. The first was in mid-December 2013.
At the same time, snow also felt in Y Ty and Bat Xat of Lao Cai province, accompanied with rain.
Today, temperatures in northern provinces begin falling. The lowest temperature measured at the northern weather stations such as Lang (Hanoi) dropped to 14 degrees C, 13 degrees C in Hai Duong, 12 degrees C in Cuc Phuong (Ninh Binh province), and near 6 degrees C in Tam Dao Mount (Vinh Phuc province).
Temperatures at several mountainous areas were less than 10oC, for example 8 degrees C in Ngan Son (Bac Kan), over 8oC in Sin Ho (Lai Chau), Moc Chau (Son La), 3 degrees C in Sa Pa (Lao Cai), nearly 2 degrees C in Mau Son (Lang Son).
It is forecasted that today and tonight, cold air will continue to affect the northern region. The mountainous areas may have icy frost.
Weather experts of the National Hydro-meteorological Forecast Center said that snowfall will appear 1-2 times more in northern Vietnam.
