The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has urged Việt Nam National University - Hà Nội to instruct its Hà Nội School of Business & Management (HSB) to review its admission criteria and ensure compliance with regulations.
The instruction comes after HSB announced that female applicants must be at least 1.58m tall and male applicants at least 1.65m, in addition to good physical fitness and eyesight.
These criteria have sparked controversy on social media because only specialised fields set physical requirements for admission, such as police and military academies.
A school representative said the school aims to train outstanding leaders, managers and executives for the public and private sectors with such criteria.
The MOET has requested that VNU instruct HSB to review its criteria to ensure no applicant is denied the opportunity to apply due to criteria not related to their qualifications or abilities or due to cumbersome and costly admission procedures.
Article 13 of the Law on Education stipulates all people, regardless of ethnicity, religion, belief, gender, personal characteristics, family background, social status and economic conditions, are equal in their opportunities to study. — VNS
