VietNamNet Bridge – It is expected that from May, Ho Chi Minh City will organize helmet-change campaigns for local residents. Accordingly, people can change their fake helmets for quality ones, with the price deduction of up to 40 percent.
Exchange of fake helmets begin in Hanoi
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuong, Deputy Director of the HCM City Traffic Safety Committee, over 99 percent of the people wear helmets but up to half of them use fake helmets, which cannot protect them in traffic accidents.
To implement the instructions of the Prime Minister and the National Highway Traffic Safety, HCM City is implementing a campaign on handling violations in helmet production and trading as well as the use of helmets.
The Police will stop vehicles to check and fine drivers who use fake helmets. At the same time, the Market Management Bureau, the Department of Science and Technology will coordinate to inspect helmet production and trading firms in the city. The violators will be punished strictly.
Along with these activities, the city will launch a helmet change program, with price reduction of 40 percent. The program is expected to take place from May 11, 2013 until December 2015.
From April 10 to May 15, police will focus on punishing those who carry children to school without helmets. They will also combine with schools to remind parents of wearing helmets for their children.
