The court issued the following prison terms to those convicted of organizing illegal gambling:
Phan Truong Giang, Director of King Club – a branch of Viet Hai Dang Company under the Vietnamese Overseas Business Club – was sentenced to 30 months in prison.
Nguyen Dinh Lam, Deputy CEO of Viet Hai Dang Company, received a suspended sentence of three years.
Three South Korean nationals who managed King Club branches – Cho Choon Keun, Shim Hawn Hee, and Choi Jin Bok – were sentenced to 4 years, 2 years, and 3 years and 6 months in prison, respectively.
All five were additionally fined approximately $4,100 each.
Regarding the defendants charged with gambling, the court handed down the following sentences:
Ho Dai Dung, former Vice Chairman of Phu Tho Province, received 3 years and 6 months in prison.
Ngo Ngoc Duc, former Party Secretary of Hoa Binh City, was sentenced to 3 years.
Nguyen The Vu, a singer, received a 3-year sentence.
Nguyen Duc Long, a construction engineer, was sentenced to 3 years.
Ho Dong Thap, Director of O2 Vietnam JSC, received a 3-year sentence.
Nguyen Quoc Khanh, former Director of Phuong Hoang International Co. Ltd., received a suspended sentence of 30 months.
To Thi Thu Huong, former museum official in Phu Tho Province, was sentenced to 3 years.
Do Anh Tuan, former head of the Sub-department of Agricultural, Forestry and Fisheries Quality Management in Phu Tho Province, received a 3-year term.
Truong Quang Phu, self-employed, was sentenced to 3 years.
Nguyen Van Hung, former employee of Muong Thanh Group, received a suspended sentence of 30 months.
Nguyen Xuan Hue, former deputy head of the Social-Cultural Department at the Phu Tho Provincial Office, also received a suspended 30-month sentence.
Do Xuan Lap, CEO of Tien Dat Wood Industry JSC, was sentenced to 22 months in prison.
Nguyen Thu Thuy, CEO of a transport infrastructure consulting and construction company, received a suspended 24-month sentence.
Nguyen Nhu Hoai, Director of Saigon Express Co., also received a suspended sentence of 24 months.
Tran Manh Hung, former Director of Cavico Co., was sentenced to 3 years.
Nguyen Tien Dung, former head of the Social-Cultural Department of the Phu Tho Provincial Office, received a suspended sentence of 24 months.
Several defendants, including singer Vu Ngoc Ha, were additionally fined approximately $4,100.
In its judgment, the court emphasized the gravity of the offenses and the public interest surrounding the case.
The defendants came from various backgrounds and age groups, including former officials, celebrities, and businesspeople.
Some were already facing prosecution in other criminal cases.
The court found that the defendants' confessions aligned with the evidence and testimonies in the case file, fully establishing their guilt as outlined in the indictment.
Some defendants had committed repeated offenses, which were considered aggravating factors.
In terms of leniency, the court noted that, aside from two fugitives, most defendants cooperated, confessed, or voluntarily compensated for damages.
Others had no prior convictions and demonstrated remorse.
Some presented records of professional merit and letters of support from organizations requesting reduced sentencing.
