A high-speed boat service between HCM City, Can Gio District and Vung Tau will be launched in October, the city Department of Transport has said.

Greenlines DP Technology Co Ltd, the operator of the service, will have four services daily from Bach Dang Wharf in District 1 to the coastal district of Can Gio and eight from Can Gio to Vung Tau.

The boats will have air-conditioners, televisions, wifi and life-jackets.

It will take 75 minutes to travel from HCM City to Can Gio, and 30 minutes from Can Gio to Vung Tau.

The ticket will be priced at VNĐ200,000 (US$8.78) for the Bach Dang-Can Gio trip.

But Can Gio  District residents will pay only half the price and disabled people with free public bus passes can travel for free.

HCM City is promoting water transport to ease the pressure on the roads, which are becoming increasingly crowded.
