Many of these poor workers are working in Ho Chi Minh City and neighbouring localities, but cannot afford a wedding on their own.
The couples received a wedding package that includes an áo dài (Vietnamese traditional dress), wedding rings, make-up, flowers, cakes, and photography services.
After offering flowers at the President Ho Chi Minh Monument in the southern city, the couples travelled through streets in the city centre in a double-decker bus before returning to Long Bien Palace Wedding and Convention Center in Go Vap district to join the mass wedding ceremony.
The past 14 years has seen the collective wedding ceremony become a cherished tradition in Ho Chi Minh City.
About 1,156 couples facing difficulties and unable to afford their own weddings have been able to hold dignified and complete wedding ceremonies through this programme over the years.
The mass wedding for 82 couples which took place on October 20 was followed by a Couple Run 2023 held on August 29 to raise funds for the event in Ho Chi Minh City. The run attracted a total of 1,000 couples.
