According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications, the District 7 - Nha Be Tax Sub-department has submitted a detailed report to the city's People's Committee, advocating for the revocation of the establishment license of the American International School, which operates under the official name of American International School Joint Stock Company (AIS).
The suspension order from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training was issued after the school was found to be non-compliant with the necessary conditions for providing a quality education.
Currently, AIS employs only 10 foreign teachers and 18 Vietnamese teachers, with 6 in primary and 12 in secondary education. The school is also without a new principal, as it is still undergoing a restructuring of its school board.
Additionally, AIS has not provided the required financial documentation to demonstrate its capability to sustain and develop its educational operations.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has confirmed that the American International School does not meet the criteria to resume operations for the 2024-2025 academic year. The school has not submitted the necessary documents to rectify the issues that led to its suspension.
In light of the ongoing suspension, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has instructed the Department of Education and Training in Thu Duc City, as well as other districts and public high schools across Ho Chi Minh City, to be prepared to accommodate students transferring from AIS.
With the new school year already underway in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training strongly advises parents not to delay in seeking alternative arrangements for their children’s education.
Parents are encouraged to complete the transfer process promptly to ensure their children’s uninterrupted schooling. In cases where parents face financial difficulties or encounter challenges during the transfer, public schools have been directed to assist and facilitate the admission of students from the American International School.
